the necessary level of development, telling a young child it is "Monday" isn't very meaningful. But at Heart To Hand School, if you tell a child that today is "beeswax day" or "barley day", they know exactly what to anticipate. This kind of rhythmic knowing is very comforting and stabilizing for children.
Our weekly art and snack sequences adjust seasonally, in keeping with nature's cycles and multicultural traditions. They also change over time in response to the maturing abilities of each age group of children.
Examples of our art activities include: Making soup and biscuits, wet-on-wet watercoloring, making butter, carding wool, finger-knitting, woodworking, sewing buttons, beeswax modeling, nature walks, drawing with crayons, and washing silks.
Morning snacks are always whole organic grains, such as barley, brown rice, millet, oatmeal, etc. Afternoon snacks are always organic fruits, vegetables, beans, lentils, etc.
