In simple summary, Heart To Hand School is an arts-based,
child-centered, non-competitive, holistic, year-around, mixed-age kindergarten for children ages 2.5 to 6.  Whew!  What does all that mean?

Integral to a child's experience here are the flowing rhythms of the day, week, month, and season that characterize our curriculum.  Following an intentional rhythm is different from adhering to a rigid schedule.  Movement and flexibility -- expansions and contractions -- are incorporated into a gracefully seamless and health-giving progression that allows plenty of time for spontaneous social engagement and inventive activity.

One may picture the daily rhythm as the bones of a skeleton:  it supports the structure but the children are left free to flesh out the form.  Rhythm provides for the children the surety and safety of knowing what comes next.  After just a few weeks, students know which day of the week it is by the type of snack that is offered or by the special artistic activity that they participate in.
Rhythms
Rhythms,
Not Schedules
There are three effective ways to motivate
learning:  fear, competition, and love.
We do without the first two.
